Global March Against Extinction - Geneva

23/09/2017 - 14:00 - 17:00

The March Against Extinction is a global event, taking place the same day in 125 cities in the world. In Geneva, the March is organised by Wild Heart Association.

At the time you are reading these lines, an elephant is killed every 15 minutes for his ivory tusks. A rhinoceros, every 8 hours for its horn. The lions and tigers themselves are slaughtered for their bones and fur, while pangolins are at the head of the most endangered species in the world due to intensive poaching.

The growing appetite of the illegal wildlife traffic eats thousands of mammals, birds, sharks, turtles, snakes and other animals and plants each year at a frantic pace. Estimated at $ 19 billions annually, this flourishing trade is among the most lucrative alongside that of drugs and weapons. In addition to traffics, it is also used today to fund terrorist groups.

Animal species are disappearing today about a hundred times faster than in the past, victims of pollution and human greed and lifestyle. The most optimistic estimations show that the fauna of the Earth is undergoing the sixth mass extinction, this time not for natural reasons, but probably because of human activity. Pollution, habitat loss, overhunting, trophy hunting, overfishing, livestock, climate change, the planet is sick, and people in danger. It is time for us all to be aware of and adapt our behavior.

More than 100 cities worldwide will walk together at the same period for the cause of these animals in danger of extinction, to send a clear message to governments.
Walk together to show that we can not stand idly by the death of our world, and we refuse to let nature be sacrificed on the altar of profit and indifference.
