The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is one of the world's leading centres of research and innovation. We report on international negotiations and share knowledge gained through collaborative projects, resulting in more rigorous research, stronger global networks, and better engagement among researchers, citizens, businesses and policy-makers.

IISD-Europe is looking for a specialist with expertise on public procurement, innovation and sustainable infrastructure, starting on 1 January 2018. The contract is for an 80% position with a duration of 1 year initially, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and funding.


  • Research and writing in the fields of public procurement, innovation and infrastructure;
  • Research on quantitative evidence on the financial, economic, social and environmental gains that can be realised through the deployment of sustainable infrastructure;
  • Contribute to the development, use and deployment of the IISD Sustainable Asset Valuation Tool;
  • Technical advice to governments, parliaments and other stakeholders on policies and practices related to innovation, public procurement of infrastructure and the business case for sustainable infrastructure
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  •  A minimum of 2+ years experience working in public procurement, innovation, economic research, writing and analysis.
  • A Master degree or equivalent in economics, environmental policies or related.
  • Experience with economic modeling is desirable.
  • Experience working in/with international organizations is desirable.
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English.
  • Strong written and spoken command of French or German is an asset.
  • Excellent personal and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to the ideals, values and mission of IISD.
  • Ability to travel internationally on occasion.
