The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is a non-profit German foundation committed to the advancement of both socio-political and economic development in the spirit of social democracy, through civic education, research, and international cooperation.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) is a non-profit German foundation funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, and headquartered in Bonn and Berlin. Founded in 1925, it is named after Germany’s first democratically elected President, Friedrich Ebert.

FES is committed to the advancement of both socio-political and economic development in the spirit of social democracy, through civic education, research, and international cooperation. Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung is the oldest political foundation in Germany.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) office in Geneva serves as a liaison between the United Nations in Geneva, other Geneva-based international organisations, FES country offices, and partners in developing countries to strengthen the voice of the Global South.

The current focus of its work lies in four main areas of international Geneva, namely trade and development (World Trade Organization, UNCTAD), employment and social policy (International Labour Organization, UNRISD), human rights and development (UN Human Rights Council, OHCHR) as well as peace and security policy (Conference on Disarmament). In addition, sustainable development (2030 Agenda) and climate change are two cross-cutting issues on its list of priorities.
