Background

WaterLex is an international public interest development organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland. It is a UN-Water Partner with UN ECOSOC special consultative status.
Its mission is to develop sustainable solutions based on human rights standards to improve water and sanitation governance worldwide, particularly regarding consistent water law and policy frameworks. It works with an alliance of interested parties to improve water-governance frameworks, bringing them in line with country obligations under international human rights law. The organisation has a secretariat in Geneva, a supervisory board of directors, and a large pool of members and expert advisors.
The International Secretariat is responsible for the implementation of WaterLex projects and the involvement of members and volunteers in the organisation. It also acts as the organisation’s focal point for external stakeholders.

Job Purpose

The Communication Intern role is to support marketing and communication activities for WaterLex programmes supporting the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation.

Responsibilities

The Communication Intern is responsible for the following:
- Supporting WaterLex visibility and online presence through updates of the website, social media and news updates. Tracking online activities.
- Increasing activity with members and contacts through regular newsletters and targeted emails. Maintaining contact databases.
- Supporting WaterLex workshops and events through project management, marketing materials, media presence.
- Development of workshop training materials and PowerPoint slides, under supervision of legal/policy experts.
- Administration support for communication activities, such as attending team meetings, writing minutes, and monthly reports.

Qualifications

Education
University degree in Marketing or Communications Studies.
Professional Experience
Experience of working in communication, water governance, human rights or environmental policy are all an advantage.

Skills
Applicants should be well-organised, with proficiency in the use of digital and social media platforms, and possess excellent written communication skills in English.

Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English and French is a requirement. Knowledge of additional languages especially Spanish is considered an advantage.

Other details

This position is 100% for 6 months, based in Geneva, with a start date as soon as possible.
At WaterLex we pay our interns.
The candidate needs to have the legal right to work or to be an intern in Switzerland, and state this on the application.
