Lina Fortelius is a Programme Officer of the Scientific and Technical Assistance Branch at BRS.

Lina implements the activities for the evaluation of continued need for DDT for disease vector control including coordination of the Global Alliance for the development and deployment of alternatives to DDT. She is also working on technical assistance needs assessment exercises and various programmatic aspects related to the work of the Scientific and Technical Assistance Branch.

Lina joined UN Environment working for the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions supporting capacity-building and face-to-face training activities, as well as serving as the Regional Focal Point for Latin America. Subsequently she worked for the Secretariat of the Special Programme on institutional strengthening for chemicals and waste (also known as the Chemicals and Waste Management Programme), the SAICM Secretariat and the Minamata Convention Interim Secretariat, as well as serving as the Gender Focal Point for the UN Environment Economy Division. Prior to joining UN Environment, she held the position of Environmental Health Officer in Southern Finland. Lina has a scientific background, with a particular focus on health and environment. She holds a Master in Science degree from Åbo Akademi University in Finland. She has also studied economics, gender, and political sciences.
