The World Meteorological Congress opened last week in Geneva and is discussing until the end of this week major reforms to WMO's structure to improve its ability to respond to the risks & challenges of a rapidly changing world. On the agenda: weather, climate, water and services, public-private partnerships, observations and data exchange, research.
The Congress has approved the establishment of a Global Basic Observing Network (GBON), paving the way for a radical overhaul of the international exchange of observational data which underpin all weather, climate and water services and products.
The Congress has also endorsed an ambitious plan to improve the tailored information and services on weather, climate, water, and related environmental risks to human health and thus improve health outcomes.
UN Environment, together with the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment, and Tongji University, will launch the joint publication “The Inclusive Green Economy: Policies and practice” on Wednesday 12 June, at the International Environment House. The publication builds on and extends the traditional economic growth model by articulating the contributions to productivity from investing in natural capital, clean technologies, and green skills, enabled by fiscal, finance, trade, and labour policies. #InclusiveGreenEconomyBook
Thursday, UNCTAD, FAO, and UN Environment will be presenting an Inter-agency Plan of Action to support Member States to accelerate the achievement of trade-related targets of SDG 14 through improved trade and trade-related policies that safeguard food security and contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, living marine resources and livelihoods. #SDG14
