Environment:
What's Up in #GENeva this week?

1 July - 7 July 2019

Regular Session of the Human Rights Council

The 41st regular session of the Human Rights Council continues this week in Geneva.

A resolution on Human Rights and Climate Change is being presented at this session. (Bangladesh, Philippines, Viet Nam). Last week the UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty & Human Rights, Philip Alston, condemned failure to address impact of climate change on poverty in his new report and warned of a possible "climate apartheid".

Various side events are addressing climate and other environmental issues, such as the exposure to hazardous substances. Check the list of events below for details, links and venues. #HRC41

Update on Chemicals & Waste Negotiations

A briefing focusing on the outcomes of recent negotiations and upcoming meetings related to chemicals and waste, organized within the framework of the Geneva Environment Network, will take place at the International Environment House on 4 July.

What do you do for the environment on your holidays?

As the summer holiday season is starting in Europe, UN Environment is encouraging you to reduce your footprint and send someone a #sustainablepostcard to show you care for the environment. The number of tourist arrivals has increased from just 25 million in 1950 to 1.4 billion in 2018. This is a heavy contributor to global CO2 emissions .
