What's Up in #GENeva this week?

23 April - 28 April 2019

International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day

On 8 December 2016 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution designating 26 April - the day of the explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986 - as International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day. The General Assembly invites all Member States, relevant agencies of the United Nations system and other international organizations, as well as civil society, to observe the day.

A discussion on the aftermaths of two major nuclear accidents and some of the current challenges - 33 Years after the Chernobyl Disaster & 8 Years after the Fukushima Diaster - will take place at the international Environment House, on Friday 26 April 2019, from 3.30pm to 5pm. Colleagues working on the recovering from the disasters and two former inhabitants of Fukushima, will join the conversation. To attend this event, kindly register online.

The local NGO Contratom will organize their annual gathering to mark the day. See details below.

The Case for a Digital Ecosystem for the Environment

This will require action from citizens, governments, the private sector and intergovernmental organisations to collect and share data, process data and create analytical insights and information.

Read a recent article on this topic, and see who you can join the authors to transform this discussion paper into a concrete implementation plan.
