The 41st regular session of the Human Rights Council will conclude this week in Geneva.
Tuesday 9 July, the signatories of “The Geneva Pledge on Human Rights in Climate Action” are organizing the Side-Event “Climate change and the rights of Indigenous Peoples” (12:00-13:30 – Room XXIV). The aim of the event is to discuss and analyze how the adverse impacts of climate change disproportionately affect the human rights of indigenous peoples.
A resolution on Human Rights and Climate Change is being presented at this session. (Bangladesh, Philippines, Viet Nam). The first week of the session, the UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty & Human Rights, Philip Alston, condemned failure to address impact of climate change on poverty in his new report and warned of a possible "climate apartheid".
Wednesday 10 July, you are cordially invited to attend a briefing focusing on the preparations of the upcoming 18th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES CoP18), to be held in Geneva, from 16 to 28 August 2019.

Various organizations base in Geneva will be attending this month the meeting of the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2019, held from 9 to 18 July; including the three-day ministerial meeting, under the theme Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality". Among the set of goals to be reviewed in depth are Goal8 and Goal13, of particular interest for the environmental community, but not only.

The events taking place this week
The Human Rights Council holds three regular sessions a year, for a total of at least ten weeks. They take place in March (four weeks), June (three weeks) and September (three weeks).
