Adriana Bessa is a Senior Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights.

Adriana Bessa is a Senior Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. Her research areas include the rights of traditional local communities, the draft declaration on the rights of peasants, and the right to food and sustainability. She is a member of the Project on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, organizer of the training course on Human Rights and the Environment and co-organizer of the on the Rights of Peasants training course. Adriana also teaches International Human Rights Law at Lille Catholic University and Biodiversity Law at the University of Alicante.

She holds a Ph.D. in Public International Law from the European University Institute in Florence. Her doctoral thesis addressed the status and rights of traditional local communities in international law, with a particular focus on international environmental, human rights and cultural heritage law.
