Alexandre Caldas is the Chief of the Country Outreach, Technology and Innovation Branch in the Science Division of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Born in Nampula, Mozambique in 1972, with Hindu origins, has 2 sons, Henrique, born in 2001 and Duarte, born in 2008.
A Director of the UN as Chief Country Outreach, Technology and Innovation and Big Data at UNEP (since 2016). Chair of the UN Geospatial Network, UN-GGIM, since July 2019, strengthening the coordination and coherence of Global Geospatial across 37 agencies of the UN system. Became a member of the UN Secretary General Data Strategy, Data Governance Group in 2019.
Before the UN, worked for the European Union, African Union, NATO and consulted with more than 12 national governments in Digital Technology. He was nominated by the Portuguese Prime Minister as Director General, Chief of eGovernment for 6 years (2005-2011). An international academic for more than 15 years, Associate Professor and researcher at top world universities in digital technology and strategic foresight (Oxford University, London School of Economics and Political Science and Science Policy Research Unit) with several publications in refereed journals and international symposia.
