Elisa Tonda is the Chief of the Resources and Markets Branch at the UN Environment Programme, effective 1 September 2022.

Biography

Elisa Tonda is appointed as Chief of the Resources and Markets Branch at the UN Environment Programme, effective 1 September 2022. Prior to that, Elisa has been the Head of the Consumption and Production Unit in UN Environment’s Economy Division.

Elisa Tonda has 20+ years of experience in the field of environmental management, business sustainability, resource efficiency, sustainable consumption and production, and sustainable development. She has started her career in the private sector as an environmental expert and subsequently held positions in UN organizations at the global, regional and national level.

Her UN experience includes working as an industrial development officer at the UN Industrial Development Organization in the area of cleaner production; and at UNEP, initially in the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean on resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production, and later in the Economy Division where she led a progressively growing team working on sustainable consumption and production, circular economy and sustainable value chains across several industrial sectors.

Elisa holds a Master’s degree in environmental engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin, Italy, and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development from the University of London, UK.
