Sylvie Motard is the Deputy Director, and Acting Regional Director and Representative, of the UN Environment Programme’s Europe Office
Biography
Sylvie has over 25 years of experience in the field of environment and sustainable development within the United Nations system and the European Union institutions. Her assignments at the European Commission and at the European Parliament provided her with an in-depth knowledge of the European Union decision-making processes both at formal and informal levels, including political dynamics in the EU setting.
After setting up and managing the UN Environment Programme’s office to the European Union in Brussels in 2000, Sylvie joined the Regional Office for Europe in Geneva in 2009. Currently, she is serving as Deputy Director at the Europe Regional Office in Geneva. In addition to general management functions, her portfolio includes the relations with Western European countries, partnerships with academia, national Parliaments and sub-national entities as well as the coordination of resource mobilization initiatives in Europe. She also contributes to the intergovernmental processes in the region inter alia the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s Committee on Environmental Policy and the Environment for Europe Ministerial Conferences.
