A briefing focusing on the outcomes of recent negotiations and upcoming meetings related to chemicals and waste took place at the International Environment House, on Friday 29 April.

The event addressed the outcomes of the seventh session of the intergovernmental negotiating committee on mercury (INC7), which was held from 10 to 15 March 2016 in Jordan. Other recent meetings include the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM) Bureau meeting held in Jordan, in March 2016, the discussions on the sound management of chemicals and waste in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) context and the planning of the second edition of the Global Chemicals Outlook, held in Geneva in April 2016. An update will also be provided on the preparation of chemicals and waste-related inputs to the Second Session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) and the status implementation of the Special Programme to support institutional strengthening at the national level towards the implementation of the chemicals and waste conventions and SAICM.

The second session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) will take place at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, under the overarching theme of Delivering on the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, from 23-27 May 2016.
