Chemicals and Waste Conventions

The tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention, under the theme “Prevention, minimization and recovery of wastes”, was held in the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, from 17 to 21 October 2011. More info on the Basel convention COP10 website.

Mercury

In 2009, UNEP Governing Council agreed on the need to develop a global legally binding instrument on mercury and to complete negotiations prior to the 27th session of UNEP Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum, in 2013. The work to prepare this instrument is undertaken by an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee supported by UNEP Chemicals Branch. Its third session (INC3) was held in Nairobi, from 31 October to 4 November 2011. More info on the Mercury page of UNEP.org.
