Executive Breakfast: Towards the UN Environment Assembly – Roadmap from Geneva to Nairobi

Background
This year has been key in advancing the international chemicals and waste agenda and will conclude with the UN Environment Assembly gathering in Nairobi, Kenya, from 4-6 December 2017, under the overarching theme “Towards a Pollution-Free Planet”.
As the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury meet for the first time to Make Mercury History, UN Environment launched the full version of the “Towards a Pollution-Free Planet” Report in preparation of the UN Environment Assembly. On this occasion, UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim invited the heads of delegations attending the meeting in Geneva to a High-Level Breakfast. There, Erik Solheim and invited guests, UNECE Executive Secretary, Olga Algayerova, and WHO Assistant Director-General, Flavia Bustreo, discussed the preparations for the third UN Environment Assembly and the contribution the Geneva “Pollution Hub” will make to the important event.
The UN Environment Assembly – the world’s highest-level decision -making body on the environment – has the universal membership of all 193 UN Member States and the full involvement of UN organizations, specialized agencies, inter-governmental organizations, civil society and the private sector. In bringing together these varied communities, the Assembly provides a groundbreaking platform for leadership on global environmental policy.
