The Geneva Environment Network organized the screening of Iran, southernwestern on Tuesday 22 November, in presence of the film director, Mohammad Reza Fartousi, who introduced the film. Hassan Partow, author of the UNEP report on the Mesopotamian Marshlands gave also a short introduction. The screening was followed by a short questions and answer session.
Synopsis
After Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988), which destroyed the largest part of Al-Azim marshes (wetland), based in southwest Iran, the remaining part of “Al-Azim” also destroyed completely with the discovering and drilling of Azadegan Oilfield and also construction of Karkheh Dam Drying of this marshes (wetland) , which is regarded as the sole economic source of people, caused most residents to migrate surrounding cities.
This film is story of Al-Azim marshland drying with look at the lifestyle of last residents living in that land.
