Human Rights Watch investigates and reports on abuses happening in all corners of the world and works to protect the most at risk, from vulnerable minorities and civilians in wartime, to refugees and children in need. Human Rights Watch directs its advocacy towards governments, armed groups and businesses, pushing them to change or enforce their laws, policies and practices.

To ensure its independence, it refuses government funding and carefully review all donations to ensure that they are consistent with our policies, mission, and values. Human Rights Watch partners with organizations large and small across the globe to protect embattled activists and to help hold abusers to account and bring justice to victims.

Launched in 2003, the Geneva International Committee includes more than 40 prominent and dedicated members representing various professions such as law, banking, journalism and the arts, and sharing the same interest in promoting human rights in Geneva and within the international community.

In 2016, Human Rights Watch launched its program on the environment.
