The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) works on range of issues relating to trade, investment, finance and technology.
The global community’s ability to harness the powers of globalization has a direct and concrete impact on the world around us, on our opportunities to prosper, and on the opportunities for our children too.
UNCTAD provides policy and technical support to developing countries, supporting them to access the benefits of a globalized economy more fairly and effectively. UNCTAD helps these countries to grow faster, to create more and better jobs, and to build the necessary resilience to sustain their achievements. In other words, UNCTAD helps pave the roads so that countries can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030.
UNCTAD’s work on harnessing international trade in promoting sustained growth and inclusive development includes as a key aspect, support to developing countries in taking advantages of emerging opportunities for trade associated with the protection, promotion and preservation of the environment and sustainable development objectives generally, while minimizing potential adverse impacts. This work is carried out by the Trade, Environment, Climate Change and Sustainable Development Branch, within UNCTAD Division on International Trade and Commodities.
