David Azoulay

David Azoulay is a French attorney who studied public international law before specializing in environmental law. Before working for CIEL, he worked as an associate lawyer in the Paris office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer law firm and coordinated Friends of the Earth Europe’s campaign for REACH implementation from Brussels.

Working with various coalitions and networks, David has over 15 years of experience engaging in the negotiations and implementation of Environmental international legal frameworks. David has also worked actively on implementing Environmental law in the EU and in various jurisdictions around the world, and spent many years building bridges between communities.

David Co-Leads CIEL’s plastic work, focusing on health and environmental impacts of plastics along its life cycle, the Global Plastic Treaty and links with CIEL’s other program to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels. As director of CIEL’s Environmental Health program, David also oversees CIEL’s work on chemicals and waste management policies at the Global and EU levels.

David grew up in France and is now based in Geneva, Switzerland. He is proficient in French, English, and Spanish and can find his way around Brazilian Portuguese.

David is also a member of the Break Free From Plastic (BFFP) and International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN) steering committees.
