Announced at the Global Disability Summit in 2018, AT Scale was founded to catalyze funding and support action to tackle barriers to assistive technology in low- and middle-income countries, with the goal to enable access to life changing assistive technology for 500 million people by 2030.

ATScale works with various partners such as governments, UN agencies, NGOs, organizations of persons with disabilities, and the private sector to overcome barriers to assistive technology access. Their mission is to catalyze action, amplify existing work, and bring global partners together under a unified strategy to increase availability of, and access to, assistive technology. Most ATscale activities are carried out through partner organizations such as NGOs, social enterprises and sometimes UN agencies like UNICEF and WHO.
