Venue: CICG
Organization: Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora
The 33rd Meeting of the Animals Committee (AC33) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) took place from 12 to 19 July 2024 at the International Conference Center Geneva (CICG).
About the 33rd Meeting of the Animals Committee (AC33)
The CITES Animals Committee was established in 1987 to fill gaps in biological and other specialized knowledge regarding species of animals that are (or might become) subject to CITES trade controls. Its role is to provide technical support to decision-making about these species. The Animals Committee meets twice between meetings of the Conference of the Parties, making AC33 the last meeting ahead COP20.
From 12 to 19 July 2024, the 33rd meeting of the CITES AC33 convened scientific experts to discuss the status in international trade of African carnivores, pangolins, sharks, amphibians, songbirds, and marine ornamental fishes, among other species. Around 76 Governments and 88 observer organizations registered for the meeting, with a total of 483 individuals that participated in the meeting’s discussions.
AC33 overlapped with the final day of the 27th meeting of the Plants Committee on Friday 12 July 2024 and included two joint sessions of the Committees on 12 and 13 July 2024.
