4th Gathering of the Geneva Water Community

This meeting will bring together Permanent Representatives and water experts from Geneva-based UN Member States and international organizations to exchange views on recent developments in the global water agenda and contribute to preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference. The programme will feature a briefing by UN-Water on the SDG 6 Synthesis Report, an update from the Conference co-chair sherpas from Senegal and the United Arab Emirates, on the preparatory process, and consultations led by Germany and Mexico on Interactive Dialogue Theme E: Water in Multilateral Processes.
About this Event
The Geneva Water Community is an informal platform bringing together UN Member States and international organizations in Geneva engaged in water-related issues across the humanitarian, human rights, environmental, climate, development, trade and other sectors. The initiative is co-facilitated by the Permanent Representations of Bangladesh and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Following three successful gatherings in 2025, the Community continues to promote Geneva’s contribution to global water governance and to support preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference, co-hosted by Senegal and the United Arab Emirates, taking place 8-10 December 2026.
This fourth gathering takes place at an important stage in the preparatory process, following the release of the SDG 6 Synthesis Report at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and ahead of further consultations towards the Water Conference.
Geneva hosts a unique concentration of water-related expertise and institutions, including work on transboundary water cooperation, environmental governance, water and climate science, humanitarian action, labour and livelihoods, and sustainable development. The Geneva Water Community provides a platform to connect these perspectives and contribute to the global water agenda.
