Organization: United Nations Economic and Social Council

The high-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF) annual meeting is the core United Nations platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The 2020 meeting will be held from 7 July to 16 July 2020, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. The theme is "Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development". Find here information on international Geneva activities on the environmental dimension of SDGs at HLPF2020.

This page will be regularly updated.

Environment @ HLPF

A healthy environment is the fundamental and core requirement for achieving the Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution are threats to human and environmental health as well as obstacles on the path to achieving the SDGs.
This critical role of the environment is reflected in the several events at HLPF that focus on water and sanitation, on green economy, on green recovery, on biodiversity and on food security, among other environmental topics.

About SDG Acceleration Actions

SDG Acceleration Actions are initiatives voluntarily undertaken to accelerate the SDG implementation by governments and any other non-state actors – individually or in partnership. Any new action or action that builds on existing efforts (scaling up, new phase, etc.) related to the achievement of one or more of the 17 SDGs or addressing the interlinked nature of the 2030 Agenda could be considered as an SDG Acceleration Action.

Moving ahead on the Decade of Action for SDG implementation, the recovery from the COVID-19 is an opportunity for governments and stakeholders alike to Build Back Better their societies. The SDG Acceleration Actions online database is a tool to help inspire and mobilize actions around the world to promote the implementation of the SDGs, as well as build resilience and bring inclusive recovery in the context of new realities post COVID-19, so that the global economy, planet and people we serve could emerge stronger together from the crisis.
