Juan Carlos Vasquez is the Chief of Legal Affairs and Compliance at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Juan Carlos Vasquez is the Chief of Legal Affairs and Compliance at the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). He joined the organization in 1997 and during his more than 20 years tenure, he has been responsible for legal affairs, including the national legislation projects, compliance, regional assistance, livelihoods, media and outreach, fundraising, and private sector engagement and partnerships.

Prior to joining CITES, Juan Carlos worked as an international consultant in environmental law, as legal adviser in rural development, a lawyer for Indigenous communities and also licensed attorney in a private law firm.

A Colombian national, he holds a master’s degree in Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law from the University of Geneva.
