Sebastian König is the Chief Scientist in the International Affairs Division of the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) and is Switzerland’s Focal Point for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

Prior to his current position, Sebastian was a Senior Policy Advisor on International Environmental Policy at FOEN and Switzerland’s Focal Point for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He was also  earlier a Science Officer and Project Manager at FOEN, leading a large capacity building project in 10 developing and emerging countries in Africa, South America, Central and Southeast Asia. He also led the national coordination of climate relevant and environmental observations in Switzerland and supported and represented Swiss delegations at national and international panels.

Sebastian holds a Ph.D. in Climate Change from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, USA, a master’s degree in Climatology and Meteorology from the University of Bern, Switzerland, and a post-graduate management certificate from Cornell University, USA.
