The 15th session of the UNCTAD quadrennial ministerial conference (UNCTAD15) will be held virtually between Barbados and Geneva from 3 to 7 October 2021, with pre-conference events running online throughout the year, starting from April 2021. The conference is the highest decision-making body of UNCTAD at which member states assess current trade and development issues and formulate global policy responses. It also sets the organization’s work priorities for the next four years.
Activities related to the global environmental agenda that will take place at UNCTAD15 include:
- World Leaders Summit – Dialogue I: Global vulnerabilities – Call from a vulnerable place | 4 October 2021, 16:30 – 18:00 CEST
This dialogue among world leaders will address two current vulnerabilities our world faces: health and climate change, with a focus on the role trade will play in these crisis. UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen will be speaking in the event. - Ministerial Roundtable II: Reshaping global and regional value chains | 6 October 2021, 16:00 – 17:30 CEST
The roundtable will focus on new ways of reconfiguring global value chains (GVCs) that focus on recovery and resilience towards a more inclusive and sustainable growth. - Ministerial Roundtable III: Regional integration for a resilient, inclusive and sustainable future | 6 October 2021, 18:00 – 19:30 CEST
This ministerial roundtable aims to promote tangible actions that will enable regional integration to establish and improve synergistic linkages between trade and socioeconomic and environmental imperatives.

Online registration is mandatory for all UNCTAD15 conference participants. Please take note that forums have separate registration pages. A virtual conference space is also available for those who want to have the opportunity to hear from world leaders and global experts, visit exhibition booths, participate in campaigns and network with other attendees.
