Lars Peter Riishøjgaard is Deputy Director of the Infrastructure Department and Director of the WMO Integrated Observing System (WIGOS) Branch.

Lars Peter Riishøjgaard is the WIGOS Project Manager in the WMO Secretariat in Geneva. He is responsible for managing all aspects of the global and regional development of the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) and reports to the Director of the Observing and Information System in the WMO Secretariat and to the Inter-Commission Coordination Group of WIGOS. From 2007 to 2014, Dr Riishojgaard was Director of the NASA/NOAA/DoD Joint Center for Satellite Data Assimilation. From 1995 to 2007, he worked at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. From 1989 to 1995, Dr Riishøjgaard worked as a research scientist at the Danish Meteorological Institute on climate modelling and data assimilation issues. During his employment at DMI he spent two extended periods as a visiting scientist at the Centre National de Recherches Météorologiques in Toulouse in 1990-92 and in 1993-94. From 2008 to 2014 he served as Chair of the Open Area Program Group for Integrated Observing Systems under the WMO Commission for Basic Systems. Dr. Riishøjgaard received his M.Sc. in geophysics from the University of Copenhagen in 1989 and a Ph.D. from the same institution in 1992.
