The Geneva Liaison Office (GLO) was established in 1979 in order to liaise UNESCO with the United Nations Office at Geneva, the UN Specialized Agencies, and the UN programmes, funds and organizations based in the region. When necessary, the Office also assists UNESCO headquarters in Paris to maintain and develop cooperation with the Swiss Commission for UNESCO and other Geneva-based partners, as well as the civil society organizations.
The GLO focuses on issues related to human rights, peace, science and technology for development, post-conflict and post-disaster reconstruction, climate change, cultural heritage, information society, UN coordination mechanisms and ECOSOC, among others.
