From 17–23 July 2026, the 28th meeting of the CITES Plants Committee (PC28) takes place in Geneva for its first meeting since the 20th World Wildlife Conference (CoP20) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in November 2025, during which the Parties adopted 3 new Resolutions, over 350 Decisions and 76 new species listings in the CITES Appendices. The Plants Committee will work to advance the scientific priorities and measures for sustainable trade in medicinal and aromatic plants, Rosewood trees, orchids, and other wild flora. The meeting will open during a joint session later this week with the CITES Animals Committee (AC).
About the 28th meeting of the CITES Plants Committee (PC28)
The CITES Plants Committee was established at the 6th Conference of the Parties (CoP6) in Ottawa in 1987. In its advisory role, it is tasked to provide technical and scientific advice to the Parties, the Standing Committee and the extended CITES community, in support of the Convention’s contributions to the long-term conservation and sustainable use of plant species.
From 17–23 July 2026, the 28th meeting of the CITES Plants Committee (PC28) takes place in Geneva for its first meeting since the 20th World Wildlife Conference (CoP20) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in November 2025, during which the Parties adopted 3 new Resolutions, over 350 Decisions and 76 new species listings in the CITES Appendices. The Plants Committee will work to advance the scientific priorities and measures for sustainable trade in medicinal and aromatic plants, Rosewood trees, orchids, and other wild flora.
In addition to the eleven PC Members, the meeting is expected to host over 300 participants, including representatives from 61 Governments and 29 observer organizations. The meeting will open during a joint session with the CITES Animals Committee (AC), during which scientific experts from both Committees will address shared priorities including the Convention’s application to fungi, CITES Non-Detriment Findings (NDF) Guidance, enhancing the work and efficiency of the Convention through the permanent committees and capacity-building, including the country-wide review of significant trade.
