This briefing targeted the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (COP 10), to be held in Cartagena, Colombia, from 17 – 21 October 2011. The theme of the Basel Convention COP10 is “Prevention, minimization and recovery of wastes”.
After a short introduction by Jan Dusik, Jim Willis presented the panel members and introduced the discussion. Katherina Kummer presented in details the meeting preparations, technical details and main issues to be discussed (see Power Point presentation below).
Paula Caballero explaine who she intended to manage the COP presidency and mentionned that in Cartagena special attention will be given to small delegations, to facilitate discusssions. A special discussion will be held on ship dismantling.
H.E.Franz Perrez and Mohammad Koba presented and update on the CLI initiative (see Power Point presentation below).
A decision on waste and its sound management is very much welcome in Cartagena.

- Printed documents will not be available at the meeting.
- All pre-session documents will be made available on the Convention website.
