About this Event

As we are nearing 2030, with only seven years left, the Sustainable Development Goals Report 2023: Special Edition 2023 shows that most of the SDGs are moderately or severely off track. The Secretary General of the United Nations said, “Unless we act now, the 2030 Agenda will become an epitaph of the world that might have been”.

Limited access to necessary and adequate means of implementation, such as the increasing SDGs financing gap, coupled with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and other multi-dimensional crises are among the main causes contributing to the unfulfillment of SDGs goal.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially target 13 of SDGs “take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts” is closely linked with Paris Agreement and one cannot be achieved without the other. Coherent policies and investments can generate significant co-benefits and speed up progress.

In order to meet the climate target, all sources of financing need to be mobilized. Up to now Climate finance is also far below commitments and developed countries have not delivered the $100 billion that was promised annually from 2020.  One way to fill the climate finance gap is by scaling up innovative financing mechanisms to support the implementation of  countries’ climate action.

At this event, the panel members and the participants come together to share their views, experience, and concrete actions of mobilization of climate finance to achieve the climate goals. The specific highlight would be given to the concrete action in the forest-rich developing countries.
