The Working Group of experts on people of African descent will focus its 28th public session on Environmental Justice, the Climate Crisis and people of African descent (24-26 March 2021), and would appreciate receiving views from all interested stakeholders. They would also welcome information about any positive measures that have been undertaken by Member States, national human rights institutions and equality bodies, civil society, and UN agencies, funds and programmes to protect the human rights of people of African descent in this regard.

Call for input to public session and report: Environmental Justice, the Climate Crisis and people of African descent

The Working Group of experts on people of African descent will focus its 28th public session on Environmental Justice, the Climate Crisis and people of African descent (24-26 March 2021). This thematic session will discuss human rights solutions to address environmental injustice, racial disparities, unequal protection and the unique impact of the climate crisis and environmental racism on people of African descent. It will involve a comprehensive look at various aspects of environmental racism and the climate crisis locally and globally. All interested Member States and other stakeholders are warmly invited to join the session. For further information please see the concept note. The Working Group will submit a report on Environmental Justice, the Climate Crisis and people of African descent to the United Nations Human Rights Council in September 2021.

The Working Group would appreciate receiving views from all interested stakeholders on Environmental Justice, the Climate Crisis and people of African descent They would also welcome information about any positive measures that have been undertaken by Member States, national human rights institutions and equality bodies, civil society, and UN agencies, funds and programmes to protect the human rights of people of African descent in this regard. In addition the WGEPAD would welcome any specific recommendations you would like to make to further the protection of human rights of people of African descent in this context.
