Find here activities related to the global environmental agenda that will take place at the United Nations World Data Forum, taking place on 3-6 October 2021 in Bern, Switzerland.
The UN World Data Forum brings together data and statistical experts and users from governments, civil society, the private sector, donor and philanthropic bodies, international and regional agencies, the geospatial community, the media, academia and professional bodies. Data experts and users gather to spur data innovation, mobilize high-level political and financial support for data, and build a pathway to better data for sustainable development. The Forum will be held in a hybrid format, taking place both in-person in Bern, Switzerland and virtually.
Activities related to the global environmental agenda that will take place at the UN World Data Forum include:
- Open Environmental Data: A Digital Ecosystem for Earth and the SDGs | 4 October 2021, 15:00-16:00 CEST
This session explores how Open Data can be deployed to address critical environmental sustainability challenges. The focus of this session is on how open data can be mobilized to support the creation of digital public goods for the environment. - Ensuring the future of sustainable water data — for citizens, scientists and policymakers | 5 October 2021, 9:00-10:00 CEST
To accelerate progress on SDG 6 and other water-related goals, the session will focus on the roles different actors from across many disciplines and sectors must work together to collect and integrate different types of data.
- Earth observations for enhanced decision making on connected land, biodiversity and climate agendas with impact stories from Africa | 5 October 2021, 9:00-10:00 CEST
This session will show how robust Earth observation (EO) datasets and tools that can be used to underpin decision making across a range of sectors, with a focus on helping drive decision making around the connected land, biodiversity and climate agendas.
- Experiences with telecommunications companies data to measure the impact of climate change in natural disasters management | 5 October 2021, 17:15-17:35 CEST
The session focuses on how Telco data can provide insights to monitor social, economic, and environmental issues for Sustainable Development, turning it into a relevant source of real-time data particularly during natural disasters.
